Hats, Hats and More Hats at Del Mar’s Opening Day

Opening day at Del Mar racetrack was the buzz of Southern California with all Southern Belles donning their best in custom and couture ensembles. Men were dressed in their Sunday’s best, but not as nearly as vibrant as the thousands of women dressed in bold day dresses and classy hats.

The opening day brought in 47,339 fans wearing hats, breaking a record and not to mention making a lot of money.

All styles of hats were worn at the Derby from big hats to fascinators. Even though some may find fascinators to be taboo for the big day, Sarah Matney found the day to be perfect for her Polly Singer designed fancy fascinator.
