Liza Minnelli to be Honored at Fred & Adele Astaire Awards on June 4
After four Tony Awards, an Oscar, a special “Legends” Grammy, two Golden Globes and an Emmy, it’s safe to say Liza Minnelli is a top-tier superstar. On June 4th, the 30th Annual Fred & Adele Astaire Awards will honor Minnelli with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The award show, which will be at Skirball Center for the Performing Arts at New York University, will also pay tribute to choreographer and director, Bob Fosse and Broadway dancer, Gwen Verdon. Fosse directed Minnelli in “Cabaret” where she won the Oscar for “Best Leading Actress.”
Prior to the awards, there will be a Red Carpet VIP cocktail reception at 6pm followed by awards and performances at 7:30pm then a VIP after-party in the Rosenthal Reception Hall at 9pm.
The Fred & Adele Astaire Awards, which is the only awards show to honor dance and choreography in Broadway and film, announced its nominees for “Outstanding Male Dance in a Broadway Show,” “Outstanding Female Dancer in a Broadway Show,” “Outstanding Choreographer for Film,” and “Outstanding Director for Dance Documentary” at a cocktail reception on May 7. Among the nominees are Ricky Martin (Evita), Hugh Jackman (Back on Broadway), Mathew Broderick (Nice Work if You Can Get It) and Elena Roger (Evita).
The awards show benefits the Douglas Watt Family Fund for the Performing Arts’ Dance & Movement Therapy Program for autistic children.
Tickets are available to the public priced at $425, $175 and $75. You can buy tickets here or contact Sarah Bierstock at (212) 992-848 or sarah@theastaireawards.org.
