Haute Event: Santigold, Solange Knowles Entertain at MoMA’s Garden Party

The Museum of Modern Art held its annual garden party last night, drawing a mix of artists, celebrities and well-heeled civilians. Blue chip artists including Jeff Koons, Chuck Close, Richard Serra and Cindy Sherman (whose buzzed-about exhibition at the museum runs through June 11) moved between the outdoor sculpture garden and indoor dinner of fresh asparagus, lobster salad and steak while stars including Barbara Walters and Kim Cattrall dominated the red carpet.

Solange Knowles D.J.d an after party that followed a set from genre-bending headliner Santigold, who energized the crowd despite being a lesser draw than last year’s performers Jay-Z and Kanye West. Indeed, the quirky pop singer confirmed Close’s expectations; upon arrival the photorealist said, ““there are a lot of artists tonight, but I doubt we’ll see a lot of art.”
