The New York Auto Show’s Most Expensive Car, $26m

The most expensive vehicle at the New York Auto Show, $26 million to be exact,  is the original 1962 Shelby CSX2000 Cobra. Car enthusiasts can catch a glimpse of the most expensive American car in the world at the show opening on Friday, or anytime during the auto show at the Javits Center through Apr. 15. The car remains in the possession of its original ownery, Caroll Shelby (above), who built it.

The coupe is a metallic blue but its insides are what make it truly special; built with one of the first V8 engines it could do 0-60 in just over 4 seconds and premiered with a maximum speed of 140 mph. Both major mechanical feats in its time of origin.

“The car is returning to the scene of the crime,” said John Luft, President of Shelby American Inc. to the New York Post, “It was unveiled in New York 50 years ago, and this is its first return to New York since then.”
