Haute Auto: Maybach from Jay-Z & Kanye West Video Sold at Auction for $60,000

The mangled Maybach from the Jay-Z and Kanye West music video for their Grammy-winning song Otis has been sold at auction for $60,000. Though the final selling price was significantly lower than anticipated, part of the money will be going to the Save the Children foundation.
The Maybach 57 that was modified in Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Otis video originally cost $350,000 but when the transformed version of the luxury sedan went up for auction, the highest bid was $60,000. Auction firm Phillips de Pury & Company handled the sale and predicted that even in its degraded state the Maybach would fetch more than $100,000. Though it didn’t quite meet expectations, part of the funds raised will help communities in parts of East Africa that have been devastated by recent droughts.
The auction took place the New York Contemporary Art Evening in New York City on March 8.
