The Bolshoi Theater of Moscow is broadcasting a list of its ballets for Russian Internet viewers online on YouTube this spring. Adam’s “Corsair”, a love story between a pirate and a young Greek woman, was the first to be broadcasted on March 11. The Bolshoi’s ballets are also broadcasted live on movie screens by the Bel Air Media company who own exclusive production rights.

According to Bolshoi’s Deputy General Director Anton Getman, the Bolshoi  Theater has seen a large increase in audience over the past two years, due to the live broadcasts which began in 2010.

Also to go on YouTube live this spring is Bolshoi’s ballet “Bright Spring”, performed to music by Shostakovich. In the summer, the Bolshoi Theater will broadcast Glazunov’s Raymonda; in the autumn, Desyatnikov’s “Lost Illusions” based on Honore de Balzac’s novel and “The Pharaoh’s Daughter” by Marius Petipa; next year Minkus’ La Bayadere, Stravinky’s “The Rite of Spring” and Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet.
