Alice Neel Works to be on View at David Zwirner Gallery, May- Jun.

A selection of works by the late artist Alice Neel — widely regarded as one of the greatest portraitists of the twentieth century– will be on view at David Zwirner Gallery in New York City in May and June.

Neel’s work is truly iconic. Her accomplishments are vast–from a TIME Magazine cover commission in 1970, to Neel’s work being given a retrospective exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 1974 and then again, posthumously, in 2000. In 1979, President Carter presented her with a National Women’s Caucus for Art award for outstanding achievement. In the 1970’s, through to her death in 1984, Neely truly achieved celebrity status and was one of the best known American artists.

The show at David Zwirner Gallery comprises portraits and still lifes from the 1970s and 80s.
