The New York Helmsley Hotel to Undergo a Complete $65 Million Renovation

The New York Helmsley Hotel will be Helmsley no longer, after Starwood Hotels & Restorts Worldwide, Inc and Host Hotels & Resorts announced the beginning of a complete $65 million renovation at this historic hotel. The hotel will be reinvented to fit the Westin experience and will fly a Westin flag at its completion in June 2012. The hotel’s new name is still being discussed.

This multi-million dollar renovation will also include the redesign of each of the 774 guestrooms, all of them over 300 square feet, the 11 one-bedroom suites and the one three-bedroom presidential suite. As part of the redesign, the hotel will newly accommodate guests with the Westin Eco-Friendly Classic Room Design. This means that the rooms will now have a classic, eco-friendly Westin design scheme that features the utilization of eco-friendly materials such as energy-conserving LED and CFL lights, water conserving low flow plumbing, recycle-able carpet pads and Green Guard certified solar shades. The beds will be replaced with the iconic Westin Heavenly® Bed and guests will have access to Westin WORKOUT® and in-room spa offerings.

The hotel will also undergo a full remake of the 15,000 square foot meeting space. It will be divided into five new rooms, with the largest space accommodating 450 visitors. Some of the many amenities are fiber optics, teleconferencing capabilities and among the highest bandwidth in Manhattan.

The new hotel will be the second Westin Hotel in New York City, joining its sister property Westin Times Square. It is located in a prime location, just blocks away from Grand Central Terminal and the United Nations. In this Midtown Manhattan location, guests will have views of New York landmarks like the Empire State Building, Chrysler Building and East River.
