Fashion designer Stella McCartney blew the audience away during her London Fashion Week show with a mixture of illusions, magic and model acrobatics as she presented the Autumn/Winter 2012 season.

Taking an alternative approach to showcase her collection, 40-year-old British designer invited celebrities like Kate Moss, Rihanna and Yasmin Le Bon to view the show in a dimly lit deconstructed church in London’s Mayfair. After enjoying a six-course vegetarian meal, guests were treated to a special ‘performance’ by models planted around the room who suddenly leapt up and performed an energetic dance routine to Led Zeppelin.

Choreographed by Bianca Li, the models were all wearing McCartney’s autumn/winter collection and were joined by male dancers from the Royal Ballet who were disguised as waiters. Female performers and supermodels wore key pieces from the collection, which includes psychedelic prints and Chinese-inspired designs.

“This is London. I wanted to do something bold,” said McCartney. “I love magic, and that was pretty magic.”

The show, which was attended by around 140 guests, also included a piece by magician Alexa Chung, who was joined on stage by McCartney who performed a card trick. Jazz music was provided by Ronnie Scott’s orchestra and the dinner menu included Hyde Park sweet chestnut, Sicilian blood oranges, saffron risotto, Perigord black truffle, Wigmore cheese on toast and Campari and Sanguinello sorbet.
