New York Fashion Week: Backstage With Designer Erin Fetherston
When it comes to the romantic and the whimsical, no designer tells a fairytale better than Erin Fetherston. Famously inspired by fairies, she is known for her magical yet modern aesthetic.
Fetherston debuted her Fall 2012 ERIN By Erin Fetherston collection on February 11, to a packed house at MILK Studios which included guests such as Erica Dasher, Kaylee DeFer, Sarah Sophie Flicker, Gabe Saporta, Bryan Boy and Cosi Theodoli-Traschi. Setting the enchanting scene at the presentation, models were stationed throughout the gallery in the midst of gilded tree trunks while harpist Ashley Jackson played in the background.
Fetherston described her the point of view as 2012 having the potential to bring about a global shift in consciousness and wanting to infuse her collection with the energy.
“This season I was really inspired by nature,” Fetherston told Haute Living. “There are lots of vibrant colors, abstract prints, fun sequins, but it’s also ethereal.”
Perfect to usher in the Age of Aquarius, the collection included goddess-like maxi gowns in creamy shades, asymmetrical necklines and lace details. A touch of luxe glamour was also shown through sheer metallic fabrics crystal embellishments and sparkles. One of Fetherston’s favorite pieces in the collection is a psychedelic sequin mini dress in blending of hypnotizing colors.
Fetherson’s contemporary line ERIN By Erin Fetherston was created one year ago. After her uber successful Target line, she knew she wanted to to approach a similar project on her own that would allow her designs to be more accessible. “I wanted to do it in a way that didn’t sacrifice the style or quality,” she said. “ERIN makes fashion fun.”
