London Exhibits Golden Spider Silk Cape
The last time a textile made of spider silk has been put on exhibition has been in 1900 in Paris, but no remains exist, so it was only right that London does it again at Victoria and Albert Museum. The Golden Spider Silk Cape has taken over four years to make.
For the four-metre long hand woven textile it required 1.2 million female golden orb spiders to create such a masterpiece. These spiders are natives of Madagascar, in which both designers, Nicholas Godley and Simon Peers have worked and lived over the years.
According to V&A museum, in order to create 28 grams of silk would take on average 23,000 spiders and a lot of work. If you are interested in seeing the exhibit, the golden cape will be on exhibit from now until June 5.
