Kaplya Film Festivals Hopes To Bring More Horror To Russia

The three-day Kaplya Film festival comes to Moscow this weekend in hopes of boosting the local horror movie industry. The festival mixes an award ceremony with a six-film festival and classes taught by the stars.
A familiar face will be Canadian Jodelle Ferland, who starred in the 2006 horror film “Silent Hill,” and more recently, played a vampire in the third installment of the Twilight phenomenon, “Eclipse.”
Festival organizer Viktor Bulankin says the biggest problem the Russian horror film industry faces is a lack of good scripts. Bulankin says the possible reason for lack of good local movies is that Russian reality can often be as dark as anything on film.
The award ceremony Friday will feature a circus act, ballet and a dance troupe. Masters classes by the stars costing about $100 will be held Sunday (along with autographs).
