Downward Dog on a Surfboard? Only at The Kahala

News | January 26, 2012

It may seem impossible to gracefully pull off Warrior One on a surfboard.

But with the help from the CHI Health & Energy Fitness Center at the posh Kahala Hotel & Resort, just outside Waikiki, you could actually do just that.

The center has introduced two new workout classes, combining the natural outdoors of the Islands with two challenging fitness programs: stand-up paddle yoga and the “Kahala Core” TRX Suspension Training.

Yes, yoga on a stand-up board.

This class, which runs at 10 a.m. on Saturdays and 4 p.m. on Tuesdays, combines the mind-sharpening, body-conditioning power of yoga with the balancing and core workout that comes with SUP. Individual classes are $25 per person; Epitome Club members pay only $20.

The TRX Suspension Trainer is a fitness program that’s used by the U.S. military elite, incorporating unique equipment to provide a challenging workout for all levels. This workout builds power, strength, flexibility, balance and mobility. Class fee is $25; $20 for Epitome Club members.

All classes at the CHI Health & Energy Fitness Center are open to non-guests, too.
