Oscar de la Renta to Launch Children’s Line

Fashion, News | December 13, 2011

Over the past year, many labels have expanded their designer expertise into the children’s market. Designer labels such as Gucci, Burberry, Fendi and Stella McCartney have managed to create savvy clothing for children.  However, the latest designer to launch a childrenswear line is none other than Oscar de la Renta.

During the development of the childrenswear line, the label has taken on VP of designer for children’s wear, Catherine Monteiro de Barros as an expert in children’s clothing.

Monteiro de Barros wants to create a line that appeals to people who “want their children to look like children”—a far cry from the creations that you would normally see on extravagant red carpet affairs by de la Renta.

However, in Spring of 2012, there will be a capsule collection on sale at Oscar de la Renta boutiques, Harrod’s and Bergdorf Goodman. In the past, the designer has honored many charitable causes by creating limited-edition clothing for children, but this time the decision to expand into the children’s market is based on an increasing fashion trend for kids that are very fashion forward.
