Danny Meyer appeared on CNBC this afternoon to speak of his next venture, North End Grill, scheduled to open sometime next week in Battery Park City Hotel, with Executive Chef Floyd Cardoz behind the menu. Cardoz was previously the executive chef at Tabla, Meyer’s only closing on his otherwise perfect restaurant track record. The re-collaboration between the two is highly anticipated.
The celebrated restaurateur’s Union Square Hospitality Group’s empire includes the city’s firmest staples in the industry including two others in Battery Park City Hotel: Shake Shack and Blue Smoke. Other’s from Meyer’s group include Haute Cuisine picks Gramercy Tavern, Eleven Madison Park as well as Untitled, the Modern, Union Square Cafe, Maialino, and more. Meyer divulged one trade secret to CNBC in this afternoon’s talks–saying opening a new restaurant is much like writing a book–“it takes a long time to do.” While they can open 5 or 6 Shake Shacks in a year, because there is already a prototype, it is far more involved to open a completely new restaurant.
We can look forward to a carefully planned menu and design with North End Grill.
