Elizabeth Taylor collected jewelry in the same likeness as she collected husbands. The late glamorous diva was known for her love of jewelry and her collection now sets a world record for most valuable private collection of jewels sold at auction. A once worn European royalty pearl called, La Peregrina, which Elizabeth Taylor’s husband Richard Burton brought her in 1969, just sold for the price of $11.84 million. The huge pearl currently embellishes a Cartier necklace was set to sell at an estimated $2-3 million, yet the new bidding price, set a new record for any pearl jewelry at auction. A 33.29 carat a cut-cornered rectangular-cut diamond set in platinum ring called the Elizabeth Taylor Diamond, was expected to sell for $2.5 million-$3.5 million but went under the hammer for $8,818,500.
