Wolfgang Puck is Not a Fan of Starbucks Coffee
Celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck owns numerous restaurants and even has his own line of coffee so it’s not a surprise that he is a discerning customer when he goes out. Puck recently revealed that he not does he prefer to avoid Starbucks, he actually think their coffee is terrible.
Some of Puck’s own restaurants are just steps away from Starbucks location at airports, but the proximity doesn’t mean the celebrity chef will be frequenting the mega coffee store. With his own line of coffee, and a new iced coffee drink set for release soon, Puck says, “Starbucks, what they make, if you open a bottle and smell it, what did they do to the coffee? They created a taste in the memory for people, which is interesting, so that people really think it’s good coffee. But it’s terrible coffee!”
He has also said that when he flies on United Airlines and they advertise that they proudly serve Starbucks coffee, Puck thinks “they should say, ‘We are embarrassed to serve Starbucks coffee.’”
Though perhaps harsh words, Puck is not immune from criticism himself. A recent review of the Wolfgang Puck Express at O’Hare Airport said, “Sure, we all love that little Austrian dynamo with his charming accent but it’s not like he’s personally preparing your turkey club sandwich that’s wrapped in cellophane and forlornly awaiting your reach on a refrigerated shelf at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport. But for $10, he probably should be. I’ve had better sandwiches from a bodega policed by a fat, flea ridden car napping on top of a stack of plantains for one fifth the price.” To each his own.
