Couples Unite under the (Cosmetic) Knife

It was bound to happen. With plastic surgery becoming more and more common, it was only a matter of time before mates starting taking to the OR together.

According to Dr. Mitchell Chasin, medical director for Reflections Center for Skin and Body in New Jersey, couples surgery is growing more frequent.

“Years ago, we would see a wife come in and she would say, ‘I can’t let my husband know what I’m doing.’ And then the husband would come in and he would say, ‘You know what, this is a secret, please don’t tell my wife,'” said Chasin.

It seems the need for secrets has diminished, possibly because cosmetic surgery is so popular amongst both sexes today.

NBC’s chief medical editor Dr. Nancy Snyderman expects this trend is partially as a result of society growing to accept said procedures in men. Snyderman explained, “It’s been destigmatized with men.” Just as women do, men want to look younger, and Snyderman explains one reason: looking younger can benefit an older man when interviewing for jobs.

How times have evolved. Couples therapy, couples retreat, couples massage, and now, couples plastic surgery.
