Possible New Film Museum on Wilshire Boulevard

News | October 6, 2011

It’s surprising that the home of film and entertainment still doesn’t have a museum dedicated to the art of the big screen. Finally, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art have teamed up to plan this long awaited museum. The historic May Company department store building on Wilshire and Fairfax is the likely venue for this project. The museum is expected to provide a destination for film buffs and cinema lovers from all over, including Los Angeles natives.

The May Company building is already under the care of LACMA and holds some of the museum’s shows. Designed by A.C. Martin and Samuel A. Marks, the facade of the building is quite stunning with it’s lipstick shaped corner. Considering the art deco exterior and spacious interior, it’s no wonder that this building is moving on to bigger things.
