The Pace Gallery’s Opening Block Party

The Pace Gallery is throwing  an opening block party tonight from 6pm-8pm to celebrate  to celebrate three different openings West 25th Street between 10th and 11th Avenues.

The block party will include food trucks from New York City Pizza, Coolhaus Ice Cream, and Luke’s Lobster Rolls will be parked on block.  Beer will be provided by Brooklyn Brewery.

A new site-specific outdoor installation by David Byrne that combines sculptural and audio components in a 48-by-20-foot inflatable terrestrial globe, on view for two weeks under the High Line to inaugurate a space recently acquired by the gallery.  Please click here for the press release or here to read about the project in New York magazine.

SOCIAL MEDIA

An exhibition investigating the ways in which contemporary artists approach public platforms of communication and social networks through an aesthetic and conceptual lens.  The show features works by Christopher Baker, Aram Bartholl, David Byrne, Emilio Chapela, Jonathan Harris, Robert Heinecken, Miranda July, and Penelope Umbrico, among others.  Social Media is organized by Pace/MacGill Gallery and presented in conjunction with The Pace Gallery and the School of Visual Art’s MFA Photography, Video, and Related Media Department. THE ’80s: GREY PAINTINGS

An exhibition of more than twenty grey paintings from the 1980s, reunited for the first time in more than two decades.  During the ’80s Martin concentrated on horizontal divisions of six-foot square canvases, discovering endless permutations by dividing the canvas with pencil lines and varying the tonal range within a palette of greys.  The exhibition includes important loans from the Guggenheim and MoMA.  Please click here for the press release.
