Fall is an exciting time for many reasons; the weather cools down, fashion shows and award shows get underway and plenty of restaurants open up around town. Here is a quick look at ten highly anticipated restaurant openings in New York this fall.
1) Crown
The Lion’s John DeLucie goes uptown with what he hopes will be an uptown sequel to his Village restaurant. He’ll serve continental fare in a moody, clubby space, complete with the requisite skylight. Crown is set to open on September 9 and is located at 24 East 81st St., Upper East Side.
2) Catch
EMM Group, Hung Huynh
Brought to you by EMM Group and Hung Huynh, this Meatpacking District restaurant will feature three floors, two open kitchens, a raw bar, a sushi bar, and a tapas station. Catch is set to open on September 19 and is located at 21 9th Ave., Meatpacking District.
3) La Mar Cebicheria Peruana
Peruvian chef Gastón Acurio, who owns 28 restaurants in 12 countries, will open a branch of his Lima-based restaurant and now international chain La Mar Cebicheria in the old Tabla space. La Mar is set to open on September 20 and is located at 11 Madison Ave., Gramercy.
4) The Bowery Diner
Motorino’s Mathieu Palombino tries his hand at all-American fare in his retro homage to a diner. Expect formica counter tops, a real griddle for making pancakes, a milkshake list, and an eclectic menu. The Bowery Diner is expected to open sometime by the end of September and is located at 241 Bowery, Lower East Side.
5) Romera
Neurosurgeon and Michelin star winning chef, Dr. Miguel Sanchez Romera, is making his New York debut with a 12 course $245 menu that will put his new kind of cooking, called “neurogastronomy,” on display. His cuisine has been called “the most radical on the global food scene,” so this should be quite the show. Romera will open at the end of September and is located inside the Dream Hotel at 355 West 16th St., Meatpacking District.
6) Jung Sik
Brought to you by Yim Jung Sik, this restaurant opened in Seoul in 2009 and is coming to New York City serving modern Korean cuisine in the old Chanterelle space. Jung Sik is expected to be open in Mid-late September and is located at 87 Hudson St., Tribeca.
7) Parm
Rich Torrisi and Mario Carbone’s Torrisi Italian Specialties is moving its sandwich operations over to this new restaurant next door. Parm will open with an expanded menu, serving sandwiches, appetizers, mains and cocktails day and night. Parm will open in early October and is located at 248 Mulberry Street., Little Italy.
8) Kutsher’s
Jeffrey Chodorow brings back the Borscht Belt Jewish staples of his youth by reviving old Catskills haunt Kutshers here in downtown Manhattan. Kutshers scion Zach Kutsher will run the show and serve “a contemporary and playful approach to the canon of Jewish cooking.” Kutcher’s will open in October and is located at 186 Franklin St., Tribeca
9) Empellon Cocina
Alex Stupak takes his Mexican adventure over to the East Village to open a refined version of his new West Village, Empellon. The difference will be that guests should expect less tacos, more experimentation, and a tasting menu thrown in as a special bonus. This restaurant is scheduled to open in November and is located at 105 1st Ave., East Village.
10) North End Grill
Danny Meyer’s North End Grill will be a seafood-centric return to the stoves for chef Floyd Cardoz. It is expected to open in Mid-December and is located at 102 North End Ave., Battery Park City.
