New York Fashion Week Spring 2012: Tommy Hilfiger Men’s Collection

Tommy Hilfiger introduced his Spring 2012 Men’s Collection during Fashion Week which the fashion icon describes as “Modern Prep.”

Colors inspired by pop art made even classic knits and polos a bit twisted.  Iconic, American shapes were updated in contemporary fabrics and execution for a modern interpretation of prep. Color blocking and nautical stripes (used every which way, including as mac taping down a side seam on a pair of jeans) underscore the overall boldness. Camo, rendered in faintly dusty groups of tonal blue, green, and red, hint at the great outdoors, while lightweight leather jackets and desert boots provide extra protection from the elements.

For more urban adventures, the varsity jacket was re-imagined and paired with riffed-on nautical stripes and polos, replete with a collegiate TH varsity patch. Nautical-inspired tailoring—cotton twill suiting with taped stripes detail, a seersucker motorcycle jacket—were paired with brogue-detailed shoe boots and loafers in camo, cordovan, and navy.

Outerwear was also a big part of the spring collection: the classic jean jacket in red leather, featherweight anoraks, extra-soft suede blazers, and leather-sleeved varsity jackets. Highly civilized, slightly rebellious.
