New York Fashion Week 2011: From the Phillips de Pury Gallery To Gen Art’s Fresh Faces in Fashion
Phillips de Pury and Company is an art gallery in New York City that auctions contemporary art in forms of design, photographs and jewelry. In collaboration with Giorgio Armani, the gallery hosted a reception last night that brought together artists in every form. The elite circle that attended the event included Anna Dello Russo, who spent time as the Fashion Editor for Conde Nast Italia, before becoming the Fashion Director and creative consultant for Vogue Japan. One of the industry’s most noteworthy quotes belongs to Dello Russo, when she said, “I don’t want to be cool, I want to be fashion!” Don’t we all?
Other guests included Bar Rafaeli, Nicky Hilton, Camila Alves, and Giovanna Battaglia. The gallery displayed the sensational work of renowned painter Richard Hambleton, with an exhibition entitled Richard Hambleton: A Retrospective. As the final installment of a series curated by Roitfeld and Valmorbida, the exhibition traces back to 1982, and serves to highlight his most hailed work throughout the years. The exhibition will be open to the public from September 10th– 13th.
After a stop at the Phillips de Pury gallery, the evening continued on to the Gen Art Fresh Faces in Fashion runway show, where some of today’s most coveted designers first began their careers, such as Zac Posen, Rebecca Taylor, and Phillip Lim. The most impressive collections that came down the runway included those by Eighteenth, William Okpo, and menswear designer Baron Wells.
From the inspiring show co-hosted by actress Erika Christensen, the evening ended with dinner at Mr. Chow Tribeca, joined by a special guest, Mr. Giuseppe Zanotti. Over a delicious meal, we celebrated the art of fashion, discussed where the mastermind draws his inspiration for his amazing shoes, and orchestrated a collaborative plan for the future.
