Haute 100 Update: LACMA’s Inaugural Art + Film Gala to Honor Clint Eastwood, Co-Chaired by Leo DiCaprio and Eva Chow

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) has announced plans for their inaugural Art + Film Gala on Saturday, November 5, 2011, which has been made possible with generous support from Gucci. The premiere event will honor actor Clint Eastwood and artist John Baldessari with a glamorous celebration of the art of the moving image.

Co-chaired by actor Leonardo DiCaprio and LACMA Trustee Eva Chow, the event promises to draw illustrious names from both film and art. Proceeds from the gala will be used to support LACMA’s broader initiatives as well as making film more prominent in the museum’s curatorial programming.

The wider incorporation of film in the museum includes a revamped film program led by Film Independent’s Elvis Mitchell, as well as exhibitions, acquisitions, and educational programming in addition to screenings that explore the crossing between film and art.

Clint Eastwood – whose latest project is J. Edgar, a biopic on the infamous FBI founder starring DiCaprio – is widely recognized as one of contemporary American cinema’s most revered actors and filmmakers. DiCaprio commented, “I am proud to take part in this celebration of the contributions of Clint Eastwood. His illustrious motion picture career is unparalleled. And I’m so pleased that LACMA recognizes film as the art form it is and is dedicated to creating a world-class film department.”

The Art + Film Gala 2011 will be held on Saturday, November 5, and is expected to draw renowned local, national, and international guests from the worlds of art, entertainment, fashion, and design, including collectors, philanthropists, and cultural and civic leaders, among others.
