Haute 100 Update: Beyoncé Tops the Charts Again with Best-Selling Celebrity Fragrance
Beyoncé is no stranger to topping the charts. With multiple Grammy Awards and countless hits under her belt, the 29-year-old songstress is one half of the quintessential power couple with her husband, hip-hop icon and fellow mogul, Jay-Z. The chart she has most recently topped, however, has nothing to do with music – her perfumes are the best-selling celebrity fragrances out there.
Beyoncé debuted her first scent, Heat, last year with a second, called Heat Rush, this year. Heat – described as “a mixture of floral, fruity and woody with tones of milkwood and tonka bean” – hit the market with tremendous reception. Heat was so successful that it beat out some other high profile celebrity scents.
The superstar got into the fragrance business with a passion for scents, saying that she never left home without perfume on. She explained, “I feel like fragrance is one of the most important accessories a woman can have – it’s sexy, it says something, and it’s that final touch, like putting on a gorgeous pair of stilettos.”
Her love affair with perfume began at a young age. The singer recalls, “One of the things I remember from being a little girl is how I loved watching my mother getting ready to go out and she’d spray on her perfume.”
She adds, “It was this gorgeous blast that would linger in the room after she’d gone and it would remind me of her. I thought it was so sophisticated and glamorous, so feminine and sexy. To me, even if you are dressed to kill and everything is looking fabulous, you are still not done without that touch of fragrance. It’s the cherry on top of the cake.”
Colleen Rooney’s Butterflies came in second, followed by soccer star David Beckham’s Intimately Yours. Fellow musician Mariah Carey’s Lollipop Bling took fourth place while Victoria Beckham’s Signature finished the list out with the tenth spot.
