Flash sale sites like Gilt City and One Kings Lane are providing modes for celebrity chefs to test their allure among public. On June 28, star Chef Alice Waters partnered with home decor flash sale site One Kings Lane to offer up 10 tickets to the Chez Panisse 40th anniversary weekend events, the anniversary dinner at Chez Panisse, and the chance for one person to cook in Chez Panisse’s kitchen for a total cost of $100,000. Meanwhile, a fried chicken dinner party for 10 at Thomas Keller’s Ad Hoc went on sale on Gilt City San Francisco’s site for $2,000. The Ad Hoc deals, beginning Monday, July 11 and continuing for six consecutive, are completely sold out. Thomas Keller previously offered an exclusive dinner in the Bouchon Bistro garden through Gilt City for $500, and hot-chef-of-the-moment Corey Lee (and a French Laundry alumnus), offered a $500 private multi-course dinner at his restaurant, Benu, that was also only available through Gilt City.
