Famous Homes in San Francisco including Janis Joplin and Charles Manson

From the iconic painted ladies to historic rock ‘n’ roll landmarks, San Francisco is full of well-known and recognizable homesteads that elude the signature, pleasant charm of the city’s Victorian townhouses.

A generation of Americans grew up seeing this image every week day on their TV screens and know it as the exterior of the Tanners’ home in “Full House.” Located at 1709 Broderick St.

The Grateful Dead lived in this house from 1966-1968. The famous drug bust took place here during 1967, and the Dead spent the Summer of Love with this purple Victorian as their home base. Located at 710 Ashbury Street. Janis Joplin lived just a few doors down at 635 Ashbury Street, in the Haight, Ashbury area of San Francisco.

Convicted killer Charles Manson once lived in this Page Street home in the 1960s. Manson lived here during the Summer of Love in 1967 when he began establishing followers.

You may recognize this home as the exterior used in the classic “Mrs. Doubtfire.” Actor Robin Williams lives nearby in the Sea Cliff area.
