Charlie is the generating force and main man behind The Yacht Company, one of the top yacht charter and sales companies in the world. Charlie has had his sights set on the water for as long as he can remember and at just 36 years old, has definitely come full circle. Here’s what he had to say on memories, favorite destinations, and the best-kept secrets of yachting.
What’s your first memory on a boat?
Rowing on a 4′ little boat around an island on Lake Windermere on my own when I was five years old.
Favorite Destination and why?
For me and my family, it has to be the island of Mustique – It’s quiet and elegant but there’s lots to do for the children and the setting is magical. Mustique hasn’t been spoiled at all and when you’re there you can really feel the community spirit, everyone on the island becomes your friend. It’s also a fantastic destination for yachts which of course, is always a plus for me!
Dream Yacht Trip—destination, guests (famous or not), and what time of year and why?
I’d love to explore the islands off Venezuela because of the amazing natural scenery and that there is virtually no one there – it would be heaven, but it might have to wait until the kids are a bit older.
What should people know about yachting that they don’t already?
That it represents the best aspects of any kind of holiday, all in one. Flexibility, private family time, the exclusivity of discovering places other people can’t get to, and the fact that it’s probably more affordable than most people think.
