Runway-Inspired Dance Production to Hit the “Catwalk” May 12-21
Scorpius Dance Theatre brings back “Catwalk” by popular demand. The highly unique production features sassy dance moves on a fashion runway. Prepare for a performance that includes runway parodies, pop culture inspired elements, video and music montages and creative costumes.
Performed at Phoenix Theatre, “Catwalk” is an original contemporary dance production fusing funky local fashions and sexy athleticism. Choreographed by the Valley’s own Lisa Starry, the show makes its return from a successful debut last year. Watch 18 dancers in 18 different dance numbers/skits strut their stuff to the beat of a different drummer May 12-21, 2011.
Director Starry says she was inspired to create the all-original production in part due to the popularity of today’s fashion television reality shows. This year, she says “Catwalk” returns with even more dancing, even more runway comedy, and of course, new and fun, fashionable costumes provided by Trish Martin of Punkouture; Dragonfly Boutique; Danell Lynn of Dl-Couture; Alicia “AK” Klovenas of Culture Revolution Clothing; and George Johnson. Hot new accessories have been supplied by Amy Juneau of Aclaire Jewelry and Fascinations.
The different dances and skits are set to popular rock, pop and mix music that audience members will definitely recognize, such as “That’s Not My Name” by the Ting Tings, “Uprising” by Muse, “Electric Barbarella” and “The Chauffeur” (Deftones remix) by Duran Duran, “Hearing Damage” by Thom Yorke, “Put a Ring On It” by Beyonce, and others, including selections by local musicians Adam Smith and Kristofer Hill.
Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. May 12-14 and May 19-21, with additional 9 p.m. performances on May 14, May 20 and May 21. Tickets are $25 per person or $35 with an added Sassy Pass, which includes priority VIP seating. Call 602.254.2151 or visit scorpiusdance.com for more information or to purchase tickets.
