Haute Dining: Gilt-y Pleasures/ Gilt Restaurant
Gold. Glitter. Lamé. Very in vogue this fashion season. I must confess, with all of these sparkling flecks of fairy dust in the air, it seems only fitting to dine in gold as well. Enter, GILT. If you want a fabulous meal and a great bottle of champagne, Gilt has you covered. If you are out and about and want a really good nosh and a quick cocktail on your way home, they can do this too.
At Gilt, the restaurant in the Villard Mansions in the New York Palace Hotel, young chef Justin Bogle expresses his love for lavish and special ingredients, but tends to use them in a laid back sort of way by fusing Traditional American classics with an inventive Modern American menu. The dining at this Two Michelin Star restaurant would be special enough because of this, but everything here is truly exceptional—the food, the wine, the décor and of course the impeccable service.
GILT is an intimate 52-seat dining room that offers three, five, or a seven course prix fix tasting menu. This is by far one of the most opulent dining rooms in NYC. Despite the impressive history of the room and the graceful elegance of the design, diners feel immediately welcome and comfortable here. The inspired New American cuisine here is incredible in presentation and in taste. For a real treat, try their Pancetta Spiced Foie Gras served with Kumquat Mostarda, Candied Black Olive, Fennel and Pistachio; and make sure to take full advantage of their varying breads served through the meal, another surefire way to put the comfort food accent into fancy dining.
In addition to their formal training and professional experience, GILT bar provides a vibrant atmosphere to enjoy a signature cocktail or lighter fare from its eclectic lounge menu. Order a pre-dinner blackberry mojito was wonderful. I particularly enjoyed that our server found it amusing when I went diving for all of the fresh blackberries.
