Haute Spot: Walle Restaurant & Lounge
This weekend, Midtown was received by an eager procession of well-dressed tasters invited to partake in the pre-opening of restaurateur Walle Chin’s latest venture, Walle Restaurant & Lounge. Walle, a self-described Asian influenced restaurant, lived up to its description as I walked in to a richly designed space with clean lines accented by dark woods and a large black marble top bar. The centerpiece of the space, however, are the large, neon blue “W” light designs built into the backsplash behind the bar (pictured above). Having one on each side of the bar, these fixtures are an unavoidable focal point that gives the bar space a sleek, nightclub atmosphere, while the dining room extends into a backroom that has a more traditional dining feel.
Besides the impeccably designed interior, the evening was a showcase for Chef Chris Cheung and his staff’s talents. Among the dishes available for tasting was an exquisite platter of crab legs served with a ginger and garlic garnish that was a perfect pairing. But, perhaps the most outstanding element of the night was the sterling service provided by the staff. Bartenders and servers were friendly, attentive, and always willing to make sure your experience was as excellent as possible—a privilege that will make each future trip to Walle a delight.
Officially opening today, Walle Restaurant & Lounge gives an invited twist to traditional Asian cuisine in a chicly designed space that is perfect for dinner or a night out.
Walle Restaurant & Lounge is located at 246 East 53rd Street (btw. 2nd and 3rd Avenue).
