Haute Event: The SCFTA Announces their 25th Anniversary Season

News | March 15, 2011

The Segerstrom Center for the Arts not only changed their name, they’ve also got an entirely new outlook for the upcoming season, which just happens to be their 25th. Sure, they’re still bringing the eclectic and acclaimed shows that you know and love, but they’re also focusing on Access to All, allowing everyone in Orange County the chance to catch some of the best performances, shows and concerts around.

The very first performance at the SCFTA (then called the Orange County Performing Arts Center) was on Sept. 29th, 1986 and ever since, it’s been one of the best places in Southern California — if not the entire nation — to catch the latest Broadway tours, the best of the dance world and some of the most acclaimed musicians from around the world.

New for the anniversary season, however is Access to All, which offers a number of tickets to shows throughout the season for just $10. Also new this season is the launch of CenterTix, a mobile app that will allows show-goers to explore upcoming performances, purchase tickets, and much more. CenterTix will be available for free at Apple’s App Store for use on the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

“We have much to celebrate, and we look forward to welcoming the entire community to the Center throughout the season. Orange County has so generously supported and encouraged us through the years, so it is a particular pleasure to announce an anniversary season that holds an especially exciting and eclectic array of wonderful performances, artists, special events and artistic initiatives that offer something for everyone, ” said Center President Terrence W. Dwyer. “We have created a 25th Anniversary Season with premieres, debuts and some adventurous artistic programs. As a special thank you to our community, we are also proud to announce an Access for All initiative, which will make $10 tickets available to performances throughout the season to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to join in the celebration. I encourage everyone to visit often and to explore what we believe is a season that celebrates the very best in the performing arts.”

Highlights of the 25th Anniversary Season include American Idiot’s premiere at the Center (pictured) as well as Les Miserables, which is also celebrating its 25th anniversary. The San Francisco Ballet will perform of Romeo and Juliet in Segerstrom Hall, and the popular National Acrobats of China will perform in the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall to kick off the season September 30 – October 2. As always, luminaries of the jazz world will feature in the jazz and cabaret series and the a special event with Stephen Sondheim is scheduled for October.

With so many great events, be sure to download the CenterTix app and keep in the know — with so many concerts and performances coming, you’ll definitely need to mark your calendars.

The Segerstrom Center for the Arts is located at 600 Town Center Dr., in Costa Mesa. For more information on any of the shows, contact the center directly at 714.556.2787 or visit their official web site at www.scfta.org.
