The Emotions of The Spring 2011 Collections: An Outlook From Style Expert Eric Christian

From fashion writing, styling, reading high fashion magazines, visiting and shopping at luxury boutiques in South Florida, to working first-hand in luxury retail settings, Style Concierge Eric Christian has a definite outlook and feeling about this years Spring/Summer 2011 collections. You are probably guessing what’s in store?

This season, not only did the design houses deliver some beautiful collections, but it seemed like they all joined forces. In contrast to the more subdued, grungy, military-inspired designs of last winter, this season shows an abundance of colorful, timeless classics. There is nothing like a burst of bright color to raise the spirits, a bold hot pink or melon-colored lip to flatter the eyes and raise the senses, and a light, flowy fabric to provide a carefree attitude. 10 to 20 years from now, you can go in your closet , shop around, and still look fashionable! Some of the collections that struck me were Dior, Haider Ackermann, Lanvin, Jil Sander, Valentin Yudashkin, Chloe, Gucci, Emilio Pucci, Burberry Prorsum, and Bottega Veneta. These collections showcased a variety of looks and moods that can be found in luxury boutiques right here in sunny Miami, Florida at boutiques like the Webster Miami Beach, Bal Harbour shops, and Sauvage downtown Miami. These designs are well suited for a climate like Miami; here we have the beach, the nightlife, and the sun!

To start, cobalt blues, turquoise, and whites give a sense of confidence, wit, and charm. Hot pinks, oranges, and fuchsias provide a sense of funand flirtatiousness. In terms of prints and designs, there were a medley of flowers, vibrant stripes, fringes, and embroidery to awe at. Tunics, flirty frocks, vests, and biker jackets are also to be expected this season. For footwear, expect to see straps come back again; and there are a lot of 4 to 6 inch wedges, strapped heels, and occasional flats.

Through it all, Spring and Summer collections are always fun! Let’s applaud all of the wonderful designers; remember, this season its about life and living. The season’s designs offer color, print, and style that should have all of us celebrating and smiling :).
