Haute Fashion: Pucci’s Spring/Summer 2011 Collection Reflects The Spirit of Miami

The sun, 90 degree temperature, sun tans, bikinis, beautiful people, and of course, the beach are all the elements we think about when we envision Miami.  People from all over the world flock to Miami to vacation and enjoy the weather and the lifestyle that Miami offers. When coming up with ideas for writing this article, I was doing some research on Emilio Pucci’s Creative Director Mr. Peter Dundas. After following Pucci for years and discovering Mr. Dundas, it was his inspiration and designs for his new collection that inspired me and showed a huge similarity between the beauty, color, lifestyle, and weather in Miami to his new Spring/Summer 2011 collection.

Starting out with a boutique on Capri in the late 1950s, Emilio Pucci used his aristocratic lineage to revolutionize resort clothing.  Pucci’s designs became a staple for the rich and famous in Palm Beach, Miami Beach, and Monaco.   His bold colors and  kaleidoscopic prints soon became the labels signature.  Now under the directorship of designer Peter Dundas, the iconic Italian label’s bold and bright dresses and bikinis continue to steal the spotlight all over the world, especially in Miami, Florida.

To me, island life, beach, beautiful weather, and a relaxed; yet luxurious lifestyle was the inspiration for this collection as the models pranced round in floor-grazing saharienne’ dresses, split open in front to reveal spike-heeled, lace-up, over-the-knee, open-toe boots, or stiletto sandals, embellished with turquoise and lapis.  The collection also consisted of bathing suits, caftans, and prints that were inspired by the ocean and the day and night-life that Miami offers. The blues and the whites represented the ability to stay cool during the day as the blacks, browns, and burnt oranges represented the night-life and glitz of Miami.  In my opinion, the whites could represent night and day because in Miami, white brings a very fresh, crisp, and sophisticated approach to the nightlife’s setting. Many of the fabrics such as cottons, silks and liquid jerseys complimented the heat and the weather conditions that the beautiful city delivers.

Dundas nevertheless made sure that the woman that was wearing these designs could go straight from the runway to the red carpet. In Miami, due to the humidity and the weather, that is very important.  I’m sure during the Miami Beach Boat Show, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, and some of the most high profile parties in Miami, someone will be sporting this beautiful collection. This collection can be found in Pucci Bal Harbour and Nordstrom Aventura.  For more information on Pucci’s 2011 Spring/Summer collection, visit www.emiliopucci.com or www.style.com.
