Haute Event: Wicked Returns to the SCFTA

Breaking just about every record and making mega stars out of its already famous leads, Wicked sold out its run last time it was here at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts (then it was still the Performing Arts Center). Don’t miss out this time — or see it again — from Mar. 9 – April 3, when it returns to the stage, bringing every unforgettable song and scene with it.

Based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel, Wicked tells the story of the witches of Oz, pre-Dorothy and Toto. With music by Steven Schwartz and book by Winnie Holzman, most of the songs have become standards (just watch an episode of Glee or American Idol for proof of that) and the epic tale has been thrilling audiences since its debut. The witches, one born with green skin and is smart, fiery and misunderstood while her sister is beautiful and very popular. The show tells their story and how they become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good.

Wicked is a musical theater phenomenon, and from the day it closed its first engagement at the Center in 2006, our audiences have been asking us to bring it back,” says Center President Terry Dwyer. “We’re very pleased that we are able to present it again, with all it extraordinary production values, powerful score and a wonderful cast. It is a great pleasure for us to welcome Wicked back and for the many fans who have waited for it so patiently.”

Fall under the spell of Wicked like so many others already have.
