New Additions at Underground Atlanta

A new year often brings about great change, mostly for the better and one of Atlanta’s most historic and visited attractions is getting an upgrade just in time to kick off 2011 in a truly festive way. Underground Atlanta announced that new businesses are opening to get patrons to come back downtown for all their recreational fun and free time. Within the last few years, Underground Atlanta has unfortunately been plagued by crime and unsavory individuals. However, with a new mayor, new police staff and new businesses, Underground Atlanta is hoping to become the hotspot it once was. With these new additions, I think they are definitely on the right track.

Underground Atlanta General Manager, William P. Ciccaglione is quite excited about the new changes that he is sure Atlantans will love, stating “Atlanta prides itself on being a modern city with interesting historical and cultural roots in the South. We are constantly evolving as a community, and Underground Atlanta is proud to be able to change and bring in new events, stores and restaurants for the public to enjoy, while preserving what has made Underground Atlanta special for four decades.” The upgrade features over six blocks of dining, history, shopping, entertainment and lodging.

Here are the new businesses that will secure Underground Atlanta as the “go to” place for all the fun. Comfort Suites Atlanta Downtown has a total of 156 suites, is built in a contemporary design and décor that merges with the building’s historical elements and has breathtaking views of the city from its top two executive level floors. Footprints Jamaican Restaurant & Lounge is a winning combination of exquisite Jamaican cuisine and the soothing rhythms of reggae music tucked away nicely in Kenny’s Alley. Georgia Peach Restaurant & Lounge specializes in traditional Southern cuisine that is sure to have you cheating on your diet after sampling all of the delicious food that the South is known for. This is the official Sunday dinner spot, so after church head over and indulge in food just like your grandma used to make. Le Restaurant Creole and Nightclub features mouthwatering Creole cuisine that will also double as a hip nightlife spot for those that want their entertainment and food under one roof. This Cajun culinary castle opens March 2011. ATL Cruzers lets you tour Atlanta in an eco-friendly five-passenger electric car. Tours begin at the ACVB visitor’s center and outlines downtown, midtown and Atlanta’s historical neighborhoods. This is going green in a chic way! Finally, there’s Fuzion Showcase & Lounge which is the newest addition to Kenny’s Alley, the only cluster of nightclubs in Atlanta open until 4 a.m. It has the best selection of R&B, Old School Soul and Hip Hop, Comedy and Jazz acts in Atlanta. Come display your talent at the city’s hottest showcase lounge. There are also a host of other apparel, jewelry and cosmetic services available at Underground Atlanta just waiting for you to check out.

Sometimes we all need a little tune-up and the upgrade to Underground Atlanta is definitely a great idea that I predict will see much success and a host of new visitors throughout 2011 and for years to come. I’m excited, are you?
