The wait is finally over. The woman, the music and the legend has returned. The one and only Ms. Lauryn Hill will finally grace Atlanta with her presence to a sold out show on January 14 at Center Stage. Within a matter of minutes this show was completely sold out, with the lucky ticket-holders giddy with anticipation to see the most successful female hip hop artist of all time and record-breaking female GRAMMY award winner, Lauryn Hill bless the stage with her amazing vocals and one of a kind rap flows. It goes without saying that every Atlanta music insider and numerous celebrities will be in the house to experience the performance of the incomparable Ms. Hill. You may not have tickets, but you will definitely hear about this show for quite some time.
12 years ago the music world was forever changed when then frontwoman of The Fugees, Lauryn Hill dropped her highly anticipated debut album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. Never before had hip hop and R&B audiences experienced an album of such superior material that quickly became an instant classic. Expertly combining R&B and hip hop, Lauryn Hill set the bar extremely high not only for herself, but for all other female artists that would follow. Topping every critic’s list and selling massively, she quickly became a superstar that broke Billboard album and singles charts and set records for the most wins by a female at the GRAMMY awards.
Once the massive hype for The Miseducation died down Lauryn Hill craved less and less of the spotlight, instead choosing to be a mother to her children and create music on her own time and at her own pace. Year after year passed, but little to no new music came, expect in the form of unreleased tracks occasionally. However, her legions of die-hard fans never wavered and continued to wait patiently for her return to the US stage (and hopefully new music in the near future). Well the wait is finally over as she began her much-awaited return at last summer’s Rock The Bells Tour that attracted thousands of fans and countless celebs on hand to see Ms. Hill do her thing. Just before Christmas she announced an intimate US tour of dates that would be at smaller venues instead of the larger arena tours that tend to be impersonal. There is no second-guessing, this will be the hottest ticket in town and will easily be the most talked about show of the year. Welcome back Lauryn Hill, oh how we’ve missed you!
