Haute Event: The Cathedral Antiques Show

2011 marks the 40th Anniversary of the Cathedral Antiques Show, dubbed by Antiques Magazine as one of the “Ten Most Beautiful Events” in the United States. The Cathedral Antiques show is Atlanta’s oldest and most prestigious antiques show and features 35 different exhibitors of 18th and 19th century antiques.

This year’s show kicked off with a special reception for committee members, supporters, and sponsors, which include Harry Norman, Realtors and Arrow Exterminators. Co-chairs Cindra Brown and Susan Graham both dressed in red to represent the ruby gemstone, which is the traditional symbol of the 40th anniversary. “The ruby symbolizes this anniversary and is believed to signal peace, contentment and vitality.  It is an emblem of love and friendship. All these qualities are united in the Show’s mission of support to H.E.R.O. and the camaraderie of approximately 400 volunteers whose work, since 1960, has generated $3 million to 21 different community charities.” H.E.R.O is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to helping children who are infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS.

The Cathedral Antiques Show begins with the annual Tour of Homes, where a guide takes visitors on a tour around Atlanta to view four of the most exquisite homes in the city. The antiques show will continue the following weekend with the Inspiration House where ten interior designers are invited to design a room of the Inspiration House at the Cathedral of St. Philip. Each designer takes their own approach to decorating with antiques, drawing on both modern and traditional design elements.  The Inspiration house is located at 2799 Andrews Drive.

The Tour of Homes will take place Sunday, Jan. 30 from 12:30 to 5 p.m. and Monday, Jan. 30 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Cathedral Antiques Show will take placeThursday, Feb. 3 from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 4, from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and Saturday, Feb. 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is located at the Cathedral of St. Philip, 2744 Peachtree Road.
