Hasty Pudding Man and Woman of the Year 2011

Bundle up and get ready for a parade!

It may not seem like much of a day for a parade with all the snow, but that is unlikely to stop Harvard University’s student theatrical society Hasty Pudding Theatrical with their Woman of the Year 2011 parade.  Honoree this year is actress Julianne Moore.

The Woman of the Year parade begins at 2:30 PM on Massachusetts Ave in Harvard Square, Cambridge.  The roast and award ceremony will follow immediately afterwards at 3PM at 12 Holyoke St. Tickets may still be available by calling 617.495.5205. Attendees will also be treated to a special preview of the theater group’s latest production Kashmir If You Can!

The Woman of the Year award has been awarded every year since 1951. Recipients over the years have included Katharine Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Lucille Ball, Drew Barrymoore, Sandra Bullock, and 2010 recipient, Anne Hathaway. The proceeding ceremonies are made to be even more of a spectacle with the garish and feminine clothing adorning the male members of the theatrical group, for better or for worse.

The Hasty Pudding Man of the Year 2011 was also announced this past week.  Locally born and raised Jay Leno will be honored on February 4, 2011. Considering the tumultuous and often criticized year Leno had in 2010, returning to The Tonight Show after relinquishing the spot to Conan O’Brien just the year prior, many are surprised by the decision, particularly considering O’Brien is also a local man who attended Harvard and served as President of the Harvard Lampoon during his time there.

The Man of the Year award goes back to 1967 when Bob Hope was the first recipient. Recipients over the years have included Paul Newman, Robert DeNiro, Clint Eastwood, Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks and 2010 recipient, Justin Timberlake.
