Alessandra Rich’s Elegant Abayas

Elegantly long fitted dresses by London-based Italian designer Alessandra Rich are inspired by Arabian Abayas. Crafted from luxurious lace and silk, these abayas have the look of a simple yet sophisticated long evening gown, classy enough to wear out or for casual everyday attire.

Alessandra’s Abaya-inspired robes have become a hit in the Middle East. So much so that the 43-year old designer will launch her S/S11 collection at Boutique 1 in Dubai later this month and will also soon be available on Net-a-Porter.

“I’ve always thought the Arab women in London look very elegant in their long dresses and I wanted to wear them too. So while mine aren’t traditional abayas, I used the abaya as a starting point to create a line which everyone can wear. My clothes are conservative, but they’re gracious and edgy, too. I like to see women covered- it’s an intelligent way of dressing,” said the designer in a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar.
