Mix It Up This Holiday With Moonshine Cocktails

News | December 1, 2010

If you want something to warm up your insides and make your guests look twice, go with Moonshine. No, we are not talking about the kind that people made illegally during Prohibition. We are talking about the clear corn whiskey hand-crafted from estate-grown corn and distilled four times. The name comes from the Prohibition-era copper pot still that it’s made in.

So if scotch cocktails don’t float your boat and Kahlua and cocoa are just so-so, we have some Haute Moonshine cocktail recipes for you.

Shine Tea (for the men)
2 ounce Moonshine
6 ounce sweetened iced tea
1/2 ounce peach schnapps
Juice of one-half lemon
Build your cocktail over ice in a highball glass and stir. Garnish with a sprig of mint.

Cosmo Shiner (for the ladies)

1 1/2 ounce Moonshine
1 ounce cranberry juice
1 ounce of fresh lime juice
3/4 ounce Triple Sec
In a cocktail shaker, combine ingredients over ice and shake until cold. Strain into a martini glass. Garnish with orange peel and lime wedge.

Bloody Shine (for the morning after)

2 ounce Moonshine
3 ounce tomato juice
1 Tbsp lemon juice
3 dashes Worcestershire sauce
2 drops Tabasco
Salt & black pepper to taste
Combine ingredients over ice and shake until cold. Strain into a glass and garnish with lemon, lime, an olive and celery.
