Haute Event: Design Miami Vernissage

Yesterday evening, Design Miami held its Vernissage for an elite group of art collectors, designers and art enthusiasts in anticipation of the upcoming week’s exhibition that will take place through Dec. 5.

Celebrating its sixth anniversary, Design Miami has become the premiere destination for the international design community. This year’s show (for the first time ever) was deliberately scheduled simultaneously with Art Basel Miami Beach and will take place (also for the first time) in a temporary structure next to the Miami Beach Convention Center.

The exhibition includes more prestigious designers than ever before with galleries showcasing some of their most sought-after pieces. Among the highlights of this year’s event is the annual Fendi exhibition. The Italian design powerhouse has collaborated with New York-based architecture duo Aranda/Lasch for an interesting multimedia installation entitled “Modern Primitives.” In this experimental installation, large black and white Styrofoam pieces punctuate an expansive space, creating an interactive experience for onlookers who now have the chance to physically walk through the exhibit and appreciate, from close up, the Fendi-perfected marriage of fashion and art. They also showcased a special version of the Fendi classic Peekaboo handbag and scarf that feature a pattern derived from the foam installation.

Other returning sponsors include Swarovski and Audi, which displayed a eco-friendly supercar prototype called the e-tron Spyder in the center of their raised platform space. Other exhibitors include Barry Friedman Ltd., Demisch Danant, Galerie Patrick Seguin, R 20th Century, Carpenters Workshop Gallery, Caroline Van Hoek, Sebastian & Barquet, Todd Merrill and more.
