Haute Event: Cappellini Unveils TRON Special Production Armchairs

On Thursday, Dec. 2, the Poltrona Frau/Cappellini showroom in Miami’s Design Distrct held a special opening reception to introduce their latest project: the TRON Armchair Series.

The TRON collection includes a handful of oversized, boxy chairs are comprised of ‘digital’ rock, made out of impregnated fiberglass and polyester resin. The chairs are a collaboration with Walt Disney Signature, designed by Dror Benshetrit for the modern Italian furniture design house Cappellini, and are inspired by Disney’s upcoming 3D feature film TRON: Legacy. The partnership began earlier this year with limited-edition chairs that were displayed in the Milano Design Village and now continues with these Special Production TRON chairs.

Giulio Cappellini, the company’s Art Director said that the partnership “Promises to become a new, interesting and exciting chapter in the history of contemporary design, combining Cappellini’s strong inclination for innovation with the magical creativity of Disney.” Pamela Lifford, who is the executive VP of Fashion and Home at Disney, agreed by saying that the two companies have a “shared approach to design, creativity and collaboration that turns everyday products into functional works of art.”

The Tron exhibit will be on display at the Poltrona Frau/Cappellini Showroom through Dec. 10.
