Furever Vollbracht: Designer Michael Vollbracht Makes a Special Appearance at Saks Fifth Avenue
When Michael Vollbracht hung up his needle and thread last, he was at the helm of storied American brand, Bill Blass. Since, the designer has embarked on a new design journey; creating a collection of exquisite furs under an eponymous label. The pieces, each an intricate jewel, speak to the talent of this fashion strong hold who understands the importance of individual appeal when it comes to such a special purchase as fur.
Haute Living had the distinct pleasure of hosting Vollbracht and racks of his creations yesterday during a special personal appearance at Saks Fifth Avenue, Dadeland Mall. The master craftsman shared with us details about the intricacies of every coat, jacket, dress and stole; each with a unique story told through the implementation of such special elements as parts of antique Chinese opera coats or hand beaded, vintage Valentino fabrics. The result is a unique interpretation of the original idea, showered with a breath of new life, a la Vollbracht.
Ladies in the know such as socialite and philanthropist, Lea Black came through to meet Vollbracht, pick up a one-off piece, and an autographed copy of the designer’s book, Nothing Sacred that showcases his other talent. Turns out Vollbracht’s a stellar illustrator and this hard-copy, coffee table topper is cock full of images of Elizabeth Taylor, Andy Warhol, Joan Crawford, Michael Jackson, and more. Proceeds from the sale of the artful tome went to benefit Touched by a Smile—a non-profit organization dedicated to reaching out to the community by providing funding for customized wheelchairs and assistive technology for children from birth to 5 years old.
To check out the collection in person, visit The Fur Salon, on the second floor of Saks Fifth Avenue’s Dadeland location—let them know Haute Living sent you.
