SOL Mates: SOL Cocina’s Inaugural Wine Dinner
It might be more well-known for its margaritas and happy hour, but SOL Cocina is stepping up to the plate with their first ever wine dinner. The formula for this perfect pairing? SOL’s signature Baja specialties and the wines of Camus Vineyards.
SOL Cocina will celebrate the Wagner Family of wines while it hosts its first Wine Dinner at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 9 and Wednesday, Nov. 10. Chef Deborah Schneider, known for her take on Baja street food and Mexican staples, paired five of the Wagner family’s wines, including its famed Caymus Cabernet, with unique creations intended to stimulate the palate and senses. Space is limited for this two-night engagement, which is priced at $90 per guest and requires a reservation.
The night’s menu features tray-passed appetizers like bolitas with roasted green chile, cheese, chipotle chicken and avocado sauce, grilled corn & shrimp cakes on banana leaf with spicy lime sauce, apache beef – spicy raw beef with lime & habanero chile on daikon and sweet potato chips with spicy salt and mole pipian dip. Entrees include kurobuto pork carnitas with ancho chile & dry cherry salsa, roasted poblanos, warm corn tortillas, sweet onions & cilantro, black bean pastel and kobe skirt steak grilled and sliced, avocado salad, grilled nopal, beer-battered ‘king’ oyster mushroom, cabernet reduction paired with Wagner’s Camus cabernet and Belle Glos pinot noir.
Dessert is a warm upside-down pineapple spice cake with piloncillo-sour cream sauce, so save room and don’t forget to write down your new favorite wines. You’re sure to find one or two that night at this perfect pairing of wining and dining.
Sol Cocina is located at 251 E. Pacific Coast Hwy., on the Balboa Marina in Newport Beach. For more information, call 949.675.9800 or visit the official web site.
