Just Dance: Reflections, The Bolshoi Ballet Project at OCPAC
For three weeks in August, the Orange County Performing Arts Center invited ten of the world’s most acclaimed ballet dancers to a workshop. There, the seeds of the show Reflections were set, giving the Center the opportunity to collaborate with the Bolshoi Ballet’s finest dancers.
Together with some of the greatest living choreographers, the Bolshoi Ballet’s dancers created new ballets that will be unveiled in the premiere of Reflections, an artistic collaboration that brings together the talent and artistry of the Bolshoi and the Center’s creative minds.
Reflections is a reflection of its dancers. Starring Maria Kochetkova of the San Francisco Ballet, Yekaterina Krysanova, Natalia Osipova and Yekaterina Shipulina of the Bolshoi Ballet,Olga Malinovskaya of the Ballet Estonia and Polina Semionova of the Berlin Staatsoper Ballet alongside four of the Bolshoi’s most exciting male dancers: Alexander Volchkov, Vyacheslav Lopatin, Denis Savin and Ivan Vasiliev. Each of these dancers has trained at the legendary Bolshoi Academy at one time or another and share a common bond, which was shown throughout the workshop. Each dancer worked individually and together with the others, and the passion was obvious as they worked to create something never seen before.
After their work at OCPAC, the dancers will continue to hone the ballets started here in Orange County in Moscow at the Bolshoi for their return to the Center in January. The show and its ballets will be premiered in Segerstrom Hall Jan. 20 – 23, 2011.
