On our Haute 100 New York list is Marc Jacobs, the designer who is taking his famous fashion label online.
Marc Jacobs
Category: Designers
Company: Marc Jacobs Inc.
Industry: Fashion
What Made Him Haute: He has built an eponymous fashion empire while simultaneously acting as creative director of Louis Vuitton. In 2009, Jacobs was ranked 15th on Out magazine’s annual list of “50 Most Powerful Gay Men and Women in America.” He is currently set to marry Brazilian advertising executive Lorenzo Martone.
What Makes Him Haute: Marc Jacobs surprised fans who showed up for a book signing at the Marc by Marc Jacobs Savannah store on Oct. 14. Photographer Brian Bowen Smith’s book, “The Men and Women of Marc Jacobs,” contains images of Marc Jacob employees from around the country. The book’s proceeds will go toward the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Coming into town initially for business partner Robert Duffy’s birthday, the fashion designer drew quite the crowd. At the end of the day the store took in $18,000 in Savannah Skate Park T-shirts and photo books.
Following the six-hour book signing, Jacobs retreated to Robert Duffy’s Savannah home for Duffy’s birthday celebrations. In addition to Jacobs and Smith, guests included Miley Cyrus as well as employees from around the country.
