Earth-Friendly Fashions at GreenFest Philly

To say that going green is “trendy” would be off base; in the past few years, choosing to live a more sustainable, more ecologically smart life has become a real must. There are  hundreds of ways to do that — from buying a sporty hybrid car to using a reusable thermos for your morning latte — and Sunday’s GreenFest Philly is a celebration of all those little ways you can make a big difference.

Now in it’s fifth year, the area’s largest environmental event is glamming itself up a bit and embracing a theme of fashion. Runway shows will show off organic duds as well as ways to embrace the treasures available at area consignment stores, and a clothing swap will allow you to clean out the closet and find a few new items that will make your Fall wardrobe. There will be sewing demonstrations and even seminars on removing stains or turning torn or outgrown clothing into other great items, showing that nothing truly has to go to waste.

Like any good street festival, there will also be plenty of entertainment, including more than 200 exhibitors showcasing eco-friendly products and services to help green up your life. There will even be an eco-poetry reading by the winners of a contest to pen a sustainable savvy ode. Vegetarian and organic food vendors, live music and and kids activities will round out the day.

GreenFest Philly will be head at Headhouse Square on South Street on September 12 from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. For more information visit www.greenfestphilly.org.
