This year’s annual Opera Ball 2010 is scheduled for Sept. 10, and will mark the official opening of San Francisco Opera’s 88th season. In anticipation of the opening, this past Monday, the San Francisco Opera Guild hosted an Opera Ball “pre-gala” at the new headquarters of Obscura Digital.

Guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and cocktails thanks to Credo, McCall Associates, Grey Goose, William Hill and Scharffenberger. The pre-gala also showcased Obscura Digital’s new technology, which vividly brought Verdi’s Aida to life by transporting guests to Egypt via a digital, full dome movie.

Aida will be performed at the upcoming Opera Ball, conducted by music director Nicola Luisotti with proceeds going directly toward helping local children through community and educational programs.

Attendees of the event included Opera Ball 2010 co-chairs Charlot Malin and Mary Poland; Jon Finck, director of communications and public affairs at San Francisco Opera; and Patrick Connolly, CEO of Obscura Digital.
