Haute Workout Couture

News | May 13, 2010

I am a firm believer that beauty must suffer, but I leave that motto behind upon entering the gym; however, you will not catch me in raggedy old sweats and a freebie t-shirt. We all know that when we look good we feel good. It makes perfect sense to me that putting on great gym clothes motivates your workout. The following are my five top purchases to complete the perfect workout:

Running Shoes: I was a figure skater for many years and with that comes a laundry list of injuries, for years I could not run without instant pain in my shins, knees, and back. About a year ago, I forgot my running shoes on a vacation and bought a pair of Asics. That was the day my life changed. I am a fan of the gel soles and the fact that they weigh nothing. When purchasing these sneakers, I highly recommend doing a little research prior to purchasing your new running partner. Asics are amazing because there is an option for every want and need your little heart desires.

Clothes: There is nothing better than working out and having your outfit stay put. My worst nightmare is hopping on the treadmill and having to adjust my shorts every two seconds. With Lululemon you do not have to tug, pull, or adjust anything. This company does not discriminate and allows both men and woman to look equally fancy when suiting up for a workout. The fabrics they use to build their attire are bar none. Whether you are a devote yogi or an avid runner you will not be disappointed in your new ensemble from Lululemon.

Socks: It sounds silly, but having a comfortable, proper-fitting sock is a detail that should never be overlooked. There is nothing worse than when your sock wrinkles in your sneaker and rubs your foot raw, disrupting your workout. Spend some money on your piggies and make sure they fit. I like my socks to have extra cushion and natural fibers. I am a fan of New Balance Cotton Block Socks. Trust me.

Music: There is a reason why every locker room in high school picked a theme song, nightclubs have their music set to the highest decibel, and lovers have a song. Music moves us, it send a message and it motivates. It can put us in a zone and push us further. I’m not sure why, but I have had the same playlist forever, and occasionally a new song gets thrown into the mix. Some of these songs are only suitable for the gym and when I hear them any other time I change it. Invest in some music and an Ipod.

Carryall: The perfect workout would not be complete without the perfect bag to bring all of your goodies in. I’m sure you are aware of Louis Vuitton and their amazing soft-sided luggage line. Lugging the contents of your workout in the palm of your hands is quasi-crazy when you can have a beautiful bag to house your Cliff Bar, protein shake, bottle of water, and Ipod. If you are the steam shower post workout type, well then you will need toiletries and a change of clothes. In my mind there is a bag for every reason and voila, this is a very valuable reason to rush on over and purchase the Louis Vuitton Keepall, there is even a waterproof one to tickle your fancy.

With all of these new additions to your life you will no longer find yourself hitting the snooze button in the morning, or accidentally missing the entrance to the gym on your commute home from work. Why? Because you now are properly suited for the gym from head to toe, but I cannot be held accountable for the soreness from your amazing workout, or can I? Until next time my friends, visit www.raylenebartolacci.com. To health and wellness, Salute.
